This document provides a summary of the activities of the APPG on the Great Lakes Region of Africa from February 2008 – May 2009. This period has once again been busy for the APPG, with a wide-ranging agenda including three missions to the region, a number of parliamentary debates, two major reports, and the successful launch of the Congo Now! campaign. In our 10th year we continue to be among the most active Groups in parliament. As a result of the renewed crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo from September 2008, the APPG’s Parliamentary activity has been more focused than the preceding year on that conflict. But major activity has also taken place in relation to the other countries under the APPG’s remit, in particular Burundi (which Members visited in March 2009) and Rwanda. There will always be areas where we can do more and do better, and we welcome comments and suggestions from  the public as well as members of the APPG.

A checklist setting the APPG’s actual achievements against the targets set out in our last workplan is included (it should of course be noted that the many activites not in the workplan were also carried out). Numerous routine activities have been omitted from this report for reasons of space – for example routine briefings for members of the APPG and our extensive informal contacts with civil servants and ministers.
