| Burundi briefing: Alice Nzomukunda |
| Post-conflict Burundi lies in a delicate balance; recent weeks have seen dramatic political developments with the ousting of ruling party president Hussein Radjabu. Alice Nzomukunda resigned last year as vice-president alleging corruption and human rights abuses widely seen as originating from Radjabu’s circle. With the political future of the country in doubt, Burundi continues to face a serious humanitarian challenge, exacerbated by food shortages threatening hundreds of thousands. ActionAid will talk about their research into the vital role of United Nations peace-keeping in Burundi, and Amnesty International will outline the continuing key human rights concerns. This is a unique opportunity to meet one of the key political players in the country, as well as experts from NGOs in the field. The event will take place in Committee Room 21, Upper Committee Corridor, House of Commons, at 4:00 PM, on Wednesday February 21st.
