International Refugee Trust - Barefoot Peace Walk

International Refugee Trust (IRT) are organising a  "Barefoot Peace Walk" through London on the 21st September from Trafalgar Square at 6:30pm

Statment from the organisers:

A year ago International Refugee Trust (IRT) organised its first Barefoot Peace Walk. The walk was aimed at raising awareness about the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and the atrocities they are responsible for in Central Africa. Today we are still receiving news from our local partners in Uganda and Sudan that the LRA is killing, mutilating, raping and abducting people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and southern Sudan. 
 
This is why we need to walk again! Barefoot* through Central London to get the world to wake up to this horrendous humanitarian crisis.

When? 6:30pm 21 September 2010 (UN International Day of Peace)
Where? Trafalgar Square
How long? 45 minute walk 
And then? After-event in the Africa Centre, 38 King Street, Covent Garden with guest speakers including Anneke van Woudenberg from Human Rights Watch, and Ugandan music.

 
*Walking barefoot is not compulsory.
