The report of the APPG's field visit to investigate the prospects for resolving the devastating conflict in northern Uganda, October 2005.
RATIONALE During a November 2003 field visit to northern Uganda, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Jan Egeland stated: “I cannot find any other part of the world that is having an emergency on the scale of Uganda, that is getting such little international attention. The visit to northern Uganda by the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Great Lakes Region and Genocide Prevention was intended to raise awareness both in parliament and more widely of the continuing conflict in northern Uganda. For the MPs involved, the trip represented a chance to engage with the issues, show their concern to the people of Uganda, and see for themselves the reality of the situation on the ground. The intention was to use this first-hand experience to inform the debate in Westminster and as a springboard to press the UK government and other parties to take action.
